Yanchep & Two Rocks is another one of those “Best Kept Secrets” in Perth.
It seems everyone went there 40 years ago with their parents and hasn’t been back since. Of course 40 years ago Yanchep was a small holiday town in the middle of nowhere, now it is rapidly growing into Perths newest city with development happening everywhere you look.
If you want an insight into what the new Yanchep city will look like then take a look at the Yanchep Beach Joint Venture Web Site. We have had a bit to do with the guys at Yanchep Beach Joint Venture and Capricorn Village Joint Venture, they are both incredibly pro-active and community minded businesses and what they are building in Yanchep is going to be awesome.
Happily though, Yanchep & Two Rocks still have some of the best beaches in Perth as this 180 degree panorama shows. Taken just south of the popular surfing beach “The Spot” the image above (YTP1.11) barely does justice to the quality and tranquility of these beaches.
The top image (YTV1.4) was taken a few days ago at another spot along Yanchep Beach, it was a beautifully calm day and the water crystal clear. To top it off, as I started taking some shots of the waves I saw a large moving object in the shallows which turned out to be a very large Manta Ray gracefull gliding along the beach. I called out to Maggie (my wife, assistant and boss 🙂 ) and we followed this gentle giant along the shore. Sadly I was unable to get any good shots of the Ray as the waves were constantly obscuring his view, but who cares, it was an awesome experience anyway 😎
Suggested Day Trip
So if you’re lost for something to do on a Sunday afternoon and haven’t been to Yanchep for 40 years (or at all) then I strongly recommend a day trip up there. It’s only 45mins north of Perth and there’s plenty to do while you’re there, for example:
– Pop into Yanchep National Park to say “Hi” to the Koala’s and grab some morning tea from Chocolate Drops
– Have a snorkel or a swim at the beautifull Yanchep Lagoon
– Head to Two Rocks for lunch at the Blue Dolphin Cafe or Oscar’s
– Walk off that lunch by exploring the virtually untouched coastline between Yanchep and Two Rocks
– Stop off at Mindarie Marina on the way home for a quick pint (don’t forget your skipper 🙂 )
What could make a better day out 😎
