What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than tasting good food, beer & wine at the idyllic Mindarie Marina.
We were there last weekend for the annual “Toast to the Coast” Festival and the weather was gorgeous, though sadly a little to hot for some judging by the turnout. There were plenty of people just not the crazy numbers that turned up for the Chilli Festival held here a few weeks before.
That was fine by us, smaller queues and crowds, two things that we are definitely not fond of 🙂
Toast to the Coast, Mindarie Marina, Perth
We are lucky enough to have lived in Mindarie for over 20 years and it would be so easy to take views like this for granted, and it’s probably fair to say we may have done just that in the past. But no more, we live in a paradise that many people can only dream of and we make every effort to fully appreciate what we have and how lucky we are to live in a place like Perth.
We’re also very appreciative of the fact we can walk to our local brewery (the Indi) in less than 5 mins 🙂
This is our Photo Tour of the Retro Rewind free event put on by the City of Wanneroo last weekend.
When we arrived the car parks, overflow car parks, unused ovals and road verges we’re getting near to full indicating that this event was already a big success.
Normally we avoid crowds and head for the peace and calm of the middle of nowhere but sometimes you just have to get out there and be social.

I couldn’t help snap a shot of this gorgeous red Firebird as we walked through one of the car parks looking for somewhere relatively peaceful to have our late lunch.
Towards the end of last year I was approached by the Royal Agricultural Society who were looking for judges for their 2013 Photography competition.
I was honored to be asked and happily accepted the offer to be one of 3 judges for the Nature category of the 2013 IGA Perth Royal Show National Photographic Competition & Exhibition.
So bright and early on Saturday morning I arrived at the Photography Building in Claremont Showgrounds and after a quick coffee we were perusing the entries laid out on tables before sitting down for the formal judging process.
There were about 220 enties to the Nature category and I must say that overall the quality of entries was very high and it was a joy to see some of the amazing photography that people are creating.
One of the main comments I would have to entrants would be to pay more attention to composition and try to make the image tell a story or envoke an emotion.
Last week we covered the launch of a new local business, Livepad41 who are creating a new concept in social engagement to represent emotions & opinions on specified topics through the capture of social media posts.
Their first project has been run in conjunction with the Canning Stock Route Exhibition recently running at Perth’s Entertainment Centre.
Here are some of the images from the launch and some teasers from the exhibition.

It’s not like the boardwalk at Mindarie is lacking in things to draw you there, with the Indi Brewery, the Boat and the new Waterfront Cafe all set on the one of the most beautiful marina settings in the world.
But now there is another great reason to visit Mindarie, we have been given considerable space in the Mindarie Marina Hotel Foyer to extend our permanent display of Fine Art Photography.
Currently on display are over 15 Fine Art Photographic Canvases of Western Australia, including 60 inch panoramas of our very popular “Sunset” over Mindarie Marina (see above) and our new image from Monkey Mia, “Solutude” (see below).
So Before you settle down in the Indi for a locally brewed pint, party away in the Boat or have a relaxing lunch at the Waterfront Cafe take a side trip to the Mindarie Marina Hotel Foyer and see our latest display of Fine Art Photographic Canvases. You’ll be blown away by the colours and beauty of the world around us …
Last Saturday was the Capricorn Festival held in Yanchep, Western Australia and we were there with our market stall and covering the event for Capricorn Yanchep.
We had our “Thongy Postcards” on display and they proved to be very popular 🙂
If you were there or if you want to know what you missed out on then watch our video slideshow of the event on youtube:
