I don’t do a lot of pet portraits but I could resist this shot of our pet cat “Mist”. He was climbing a tree in our front yard and I caught him peering round the branch and looking straight at me.
This image reminds me a little of a print I have of one of Jim Brandenburg’s wolves titled “Brother Wolf”, of course it’s not a wolf nor was it taken in the Alaskan wilderness but we all have to start somewhere 🙂
I have created two versions of this image, one with a slight soft focus effect and one in black and white (except for those yellow eyes) with a heavy white vignette. The black and white one (see above) is definitely my favourite, those eyes just look straight into your soul.
Mist is a real enigma as a cat, he is incredibly shy and skittish yet once you get his trust he is very affectionate. My son and Mist have very special relationship, for such a shy cat he took to Paul even as a young kitten and they are inseparable now.
We also have a 20 month old Border Collie cross (called Saber) who was introduced to the cats as a puppy and Mist has also formed an amazing relationship with Saber. For such a shy cat he will allow Saber to do almost anything to him without a worry in the world whist Shadow (Mists much braver and more forward brother) has Saber in constant fear of another nose swipe 😀
