What I love most about waves is what they represent: the forces of nature; the tranquility of the ocean; the insignificance of man compared to the enormity our planet.
How can you not be inspired and humbled by the sheer power and beauty of a wave.
This wave photo was taken down at Bunker Bay, one of my favourite beaches in Western Australia. A walk along the beach at Bunker Bay can take you past rock pools, over gigantic granite boulders and through native Tea trees in one direction or several km’s in the other direction along a perfect sandy beach watching waves such as this rolling in.
This next image is a slight variation on the first where I’ve accentuated the shape and colour of the wave by converting the rest of the image to black and white. It may not appeal to everyone but I love the simplicity it gives the image. Both versions of this image are available to purchase.
Technical Details: Canon 5D MK II, 1 RAW Shot, Canon 70-200mm @ 170mm, handheld, 1/800 sec, f11, ISO 400. Both images processed in Adobe Lightroom 2.

Hi Mark, I can’t decide between the normal colour one and the “arty” one. I suppose that’s why I did them both 😀
